Searching for company executives can be a do-it-yourself exercise, via ads in the paper or trade journals etc and followed by reading through resumes in preparation for the interview stage, or can be conducted by professional companies that specialise in the art. Finding the correct candidate to fill a key role could be classed as a real art; a reputable company will take time to rigorously determine all the main requirements needed for a vacant position, to ensure only the right people are selected for initial screening. As they are usually very experienced professionals, they have a network of leads and people-in-the-know to narrow down a search and reach a speedy solution.

In a recent interview with the head of EA (Electronic Arts), he stated that EA wishes they would have jumped on board with the Nintendo Wii sooner. Part of doing video game business is trying to determine who will be the winner of the console wars. Since Nintendo had such a hard time with the Game Cube, EA took a chance with Microsoft and Sony. Now they see all the success the Wii is having and all the features that it has, and they want to start making more games for it. Although it took them a while to jump ship, they are now starting to make more Wii games than games for any other system. However, that is the price of doing business. When you are on top, you are the one people want to make games for.

The best perk of all, though, is that you are the boss, so you don’t have to answer to anybody else besides yourself. You get to decide when you want to work, and this is something that everybody wants to be able to do. Who wants to have to answer to someone else that has higher status than they do all of the time? Nobody does, so being the boss of your own business may just be the greatest thing in the world.
